By now, you’ve probably heard about Jiu-Jitsu or know somebody who trains Jiu-Jitsu.
There are a LOT of hurdles to begin training, but the one that most people ask first is, lHow much is it?”
When in reality, they should be asking every school owner THESE 5 QUESTIONS FIRST.
Asking how much Jiu-Jitsu costs is like asking how much an education costs.
If you’re self motivated and have ample time….you could learn almost everything online or from books.
So it’s essentially free, but it costs your time.
(Which in our opinion….is more valuable than dollars…..especially at the rate of this inflation)
In a further example, community college may only cost you $5,000/year, while UofM or Ivy League universities will run you north of $25k/year.
A similar contrast will exist in Jiu-Jitsu academies.
THE AVERAGE COST
But let’s not beat around the bush.
Any way you cut it, Jiu-Jitsu is premium activity with premium results.
If you are looking to enroll for a “3 month season for $75”……it’s time to come join us in 2024.
Simply not realistic.
The average full time Jiu-Jitsu academy tuition will range anywhere from $160-$250/month.
“What do you mean by full time?”
• I mean an academy that runs, functions, and operates like a professional business.
• Can be reached and contacted during normal hours.
• Offers classes every weekday and communicates about extra events to parents (like our upcoming Trunk Or Treat event).
• Has an inclusive character development program for the kids
• Has a full roster of background checked coaches to maintain a high kid to coach ratio
• One that offers a guarantee behind their service
That’s what you can expect for the investment. ☝️
THE COST BREAKDOWN
The rate comes out to roughly $12.50/hour.
Which is a bargain for all the benefits that are included in Jiu-Jitsu.
As a matter of fact, a recent study in the UAE showed a group of boys that trained BJJ consistently had better focus in the classroom, more impulse control, and emotional regulation……there are private schools that struggle to deliver those types of results!
Guaranteed, if you went through your budget, you could find odd subscriptions you’re paying for that you never use, plastic toys you bought that serve no real value, or electronics that often undo your parenting more than helping it.
The greatest personal shift I’ve seen with parents just getting into sports, is the mindset that it’s an investment, not "Playtime"
Any investment will take time to yield returns. BJJ is no exception.
THE COST OF PROFESSIONALS
Any professional academy dedicated to their craft full time is going to charge accordingly:
For context, an Olympic gym tuition can run roughly $20,000/year! 😮

So needless to say, there are levels to this game.
The "Intangible" Aspects Of A Jiu-Jitus Academy
At Metro, the most valuable thing we have is our gym culture. We are vigilant to protect our members against any cliques, bullies, or harassment….that’s why we offer an intro class to come and try us out.
That’s our chance to make sure we’re a good fit for each other.
We’d love to welcome you to the Metro family
See you on the mat,
Professor Mohammad & Coach David
