How many kids is too many kids?
Creating, an appropriate class roster for Jiu-Jitsu isn’t the easiest thing you’ll undertake.
Too few kids……and you won’t have similar body types, or age groups.
Too many kids and you run out of mat space.
There’s also a “perceived” issue of classroom management.
In a traditional classroom setting, Michigan requires anywhere from 12:1 - 25:1 student:teacher ratio depending on the age. Jiu-Jitsu is a VERY close contact sport and requires more coaches than say soccer, football, or gymnastics.
Therefore Metro Jiu-Jitsu’s policy is NEVER to exceed a 10:1 kid:coach ratio.
Most parents have never seen soooo match activity in a single setting…..so they get second hand anxiety.😂
“What if Jimmy get’s hurt?”
“Little Jimmy doesn’t know what to do yet!”
“Is there enough coaches out there?”
“This makes me so nervous.”
(Just a few statements we’ve received from parents).
Our response to that is very simple. You MUST trust the process. Metro’s entire business and member base is built on trust.
You trust our coaches are going to guide you/your child with their years of expertise.
We trust that you bring your child consistently and encourage them after they’ve have a rough day on the mat.
Kids are VERY resilient, and injuries are rare in this sport. (In fact….mainstream sports have a 7x higher injury rate than Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu).
So here are a few things to look for when searching for an academy for your child:
✅ An academy with a culture that is uplifting and family oriented.
✅ A full roster of coaches that have been background checked, and trained to work with kids
✅ A full roster of kids for your child to grow socially, emotionally, physically, and technically with.
✅ Open communication with the coaches about your child’s progression.
✅ An academy that supports, morals and ethics with your child
✅ Fast communication! (Try us out! If you don’t hear from us within 2 minutes of completing a form…..you get 1 month FREE!)
