I'm Over 35.....Am I Too Old For Jiu-Jitsu?

You’re just getting started!!!

We have members in our adult class ranging from 15 years old all the way up to 58 years old!

Age is simply a number. And you are as old as you feel.

“But I feel old”

Great!  The exercise that comes with it will help you feel young again.

“I don’t feel old.”

Perfect. Then you have no excuses stop you from training.

(See what I did there? 😏)

A lot of our older members are concerned about injuries. They have physical jobs that require their body to make money. As I’ve said before YOU control how hard YOU go.

If you don’t want to go 100mph your first month then don’t. Wade into it. This is a lifestyle this is not a six week Zumba class. You have plenty of time, and benefits are long lasting. Don’t be in a hurry to try and keep up with the 19 year old if you are 57.

KNOW WHY YOU ARE TRAINING

Know why you are doing this. You should know exactly what need to get out of Jiu-Jitsu.

And realize that your answer is going to be different than somebody else.

If the 20-year-old wants to compete at the world championship in Vegas then he is going to train a little bit differently than someone who just hates the gym and wants to get in shape.

Two completely different goals.  One is not better than the other and we do not value one member over the other.

PROFESSOR'S SECRET 🤫

Coach Mohammed absolutely loves when we enroll people over 45. Because we can throw that in the face of all of the 20 and 30-year-olds who make excuses about why they can’t train.

I think this question stems a lot from what people associate Jiu-Jitsu with. When people hear Jiu-Jitsu they usually think of the UFC. Bloody faces, busted knees, chipped teeth etc.

That is not what pure Jiu-Jitsu is.

Jiu-Jitsu is used in the UFC. But it is not what we do at Metro Jiu-Jitsu.

If you are thinking about Jiu-Jitsu don’t let age get in the way. Find a different excuse. Then we will help you crush that one as well. 😏

See You On The Mats,
