What does it mean to be a certified Black Belt?
“Dave, are you a certified Black Belt according to the federation?” 🥋
Amanda asked me this while I’m registering for Pans.
🦊: “No”
Amanda: “Is that important?”
🦊: “Not really no.”
Amanda: “What’s it mean to be certified?”
🦊: “It means if you pay them $400 they’ll put you on their website.”
Amanda: “That’s it?”
🦊: “Yeh. I believe they also make their certified Black Belts take a safe sport course…..but with the allegations coming out against these big ‘Certified’ names that’s pretty pointless now also.”
Amanda: “Oh. Can you still compete at Black Belt?”
🦊: “Of course. If you pay for the tournament and your membership is current they don’t care.”
Amanda: “Huh…..weird.”
🦊: “Weird indeed.”
