Are you looking for a great activity to keep your child fit while teaching important skills that will last a lifetime?
The Kids Jiu-Jitsu classes at Metro Jiu-Jitsu are the perfect choice! From giving kids an experience that’s as rewarding as it is healthy, to teaching them important self-defense skills they need to stay safe in today’s violent world, you just can’t beat our Jiu-Jitsu classes for kids!
But if we're being honest we've been doing this since 2018. And the cases where a child has needed Jiu-Jitsu as a self defense tactic have been few and far between.
But what about the "intangible" skills that Jiu-Jitsu builds?
The mental toughness.
The internal discipline.
The impulse control.
The mutual respect for others.
The respect for authority.
The goal setting.
The ability to continue when things get difficult.
The stick-to-it-ness.
Those are skills that parents enroll their kids for.
Those are why we had parents enter for a "free trial" just to see what it was about.....and stay for years to watch their child actually become a coach and put on the payroll. (Yes that actually happens more than a few times!)
There are plenty of Jiu-Jitsu schools downriver, and frankly...they all teach great Jiu-Jitsu.
Our core purpose at Metro is to "Build Tough People That Thrive In Tough Times".
And we seek to equip every kid who enters the mat with those tools.
Come see for yourself.
No risk to try.
Guaranteed results.

Since our founding in 2018, we've had the perspective of seeing thousands of families bring their child in for all the proven benefits our Jiu-Jitsu program offers.
Parents will say the right things like:
"I want my child to have discipline."
"I want them to be able to defend themself."
"I want to help them build confidence."
"I want them to be able to focus."
But parents' actions often don't line up with these words
They want little Johnny to have discipline......but only if HE wants to.
They want little Melissa to be able to defend herself.....but they only want her going with kids smaller and younger than her (so she doesn't get overstimulated).
They want little Jaxon to build confidence....but they don't realize confidence is derived from competence and they aren't allowing him the space and time to build such skills.
They want little Landon to be able to focus... but they have virtually no disciplinary policy at home, and they are hoping they can "outsource" such correction to a program like ours.
In an effort to help guide parents to consider the cost before investing in a life-skill like Jiu-Jitsu, we've created a few simple FAQ below to help you decide if our program is a good fit.
If your answer to this question is "I want them active".
Well be honest, Jiu-Jitsu isn't your best bet. It's like...the MOST expensive activity that requires the most support from the parents.
Here are some alternatives:
Take them to the park.
Enroll in Soccer.
Go on a bike ride.
Disconnect the wifi.
Our coaches would prefer to only invest their time and energy into the kids who TRULY need this, with parents who are there to support them.
Effort & Attitude.
That's it. Because, realistically that's the only thing in their control.
We aren't looking for the most athletic, the most outgoing, the most popular, or the most socially adjusted kids....we are looking for kids who are willing to put in the effort and maintain a good attitude while doing so.
Support, Reinforcement, & Commitment
Support - Support your child by getting them to class on time regularly throughout the year.
The real world runs on punctuality and consistency, therefore we believe it's beneficial to instill these behaviors in your child.
Reinforcement - Every month we cover our "Monthly Intention".
These are morals/ethics that every good parent would want to see in their child. (Honesty, Grit, Empathy, Contentment, Ambition, etc).
Reinforcing not only these character values but also working through the hard practices with your child will make a dramatic impact on their success. As we say "Kids don't quit in the gym. They quit on the car ride home."
Commitment - Jiu-Jitsu is a highly technical skill that takes immense time and effort to become competent at.
It's not uncommon to train for 3-5 years and feel like you're "just starting".
Now, we don't sell 5 year memberships to people day one.
We start with 12 months programs.
12 months is enough to begin to see the fruits of your investment in your child.
The only "Free" thing that has any lasting value is Christ's free gift of Salvation , the rest will require resources.
Resources are time, money, or attention.
Jiu-Jitsu doesn't require a HUGE amount of any of these, but it requires a moderate amount of both.
Time Investment: Minimum 2hrs/week for 1 year.
Dollar Investment: Our tuition will range anywhere from $30-$60/wk depending on how much your child trains, and whether you choose to pay weekly, monthly, or in full for the year.
Attention: This seems to be the resource that makes the difference between children who THRIVE in our program, and kids who just feel "meh" about it.
Giving attention to WHAT your child is learning, praising them for their EFFORT & ATTITUDE and reinforcing the stick-to-it ness is absolutely crucial on the parent's part.
Discipline is by far the most common reason parents seek to enroll their child in Jiu-Jitsu.
But when asked what a practical example of discipline looks like to them.....the room gets quiet real quick.
Being able to answer this will help you gain clarity on if you/your child is ready for Jiu-Jitsu.
"Begin with the end in mind" as Dr Stephen Covey would say.
Jiu-Jitsu is combat.
Not ballet.
Not dance.
Not parkour.
Not ninja warrior course.
In turn, there will inevitably be days when your child has a very physically tough class.
Maybe a young boy gets taken down by a little girl and his ego can't handle it.
On those days when your child says "I want to quit" will you trust the process that you started out with?
As always our coaches are on site for coaching sessions as needed with the kids.
Your child doesn't need you to be their friend.
They need you as their parent.
Their mentor.
Their responsible adult.
Their tough love administrator.
Their accountability to sticking to things that YOU know are beneficial to them.
"Little Johnny doesn't enjoy it anymore"
"He fights me every time its time to leave the house."
Those are pivotal decisions in your child's life.
When a child throws a fit, and you give in to their demands....you are teaching them a very valuable lesson.
Lesson: "If I throw a big enough fit, I will get my way."
Translate that into adulthood, where does that behavior land them?
Nowhere desirable.
We aim for excellence. And it's important to only attract people who want the same things we want.
