Another Jiu-Jitsu Parent Phone Call ☎️

🦊: “Hey this is Coach Fox with Metro Jiu-Jitsu how can I help you?”

Mom: “Hi Coach Fox, my son (who we’ll call Ricky) just started school.

And well I’m getting complaints from parents that he’s hitting other kids and so because he can’t keep his hands to himself we’re gonna pull him out of Jiu-Jitsu.”

🦊: *I can help with that……but can you repeat it again for me?”

Mom: “Yeh Ricky is hitting kids at school and he says he’s doing Jiu-Jitsu on them…..and the teacher keeps emailing me.”

🦊: “Gotcha. How old is Ricky?”

Mom: 5

🦊 : “And describe to me what he’s doing?”

Mom: She could tell I was seeking to understand

“I’m just…..we’re having a hard transition….he just started school. He’s got new meds for his autism and adhd and now these teachers every week sending me emails……it’s just a lot.

🦊: “I completely get what you’re dealing with. And I’m going to hold my tongue on the public school teachers, but one thing I CAN promise you……is 5 year boys will get handsy.

We see it all the time in our Summer Camp.”

Mom: “Yeh we’re not thrilled with the school.”

🦊: “Have you talked to Coach Jibril Abdrabboh at all to have a sit down with Ricky and talk about restraint and self control?”

Mom: “No with school and such it’s just been a lot.”

🦊: “Well listen Mom…..I’ll do whatever you want. But I know first hand pulling Ricky out of Jiu-Jitsu as discipline for not having self control is in no way going to help the situation.”

Mom: “No I know.”

🦊: “But I wanna help you. How about we do this: I’ll set up a meeting with our Kids Program Director to have a chat about personal space and Black Belt focus not just on the mat…..but off as well. Are you opposed to that.”

Mom: “No not all all.”

🦊: And additionally Metro will pay for a couple private lessons for him to really help develop that kid/coach relationship and help him refocus on the mat and have another figure to look forward to.”

Mom: “Oh that’d be wonderful!”

🦊: Cool, you I’ll set that up once we hang up.

Parents.

Your job of raising the next generation to be God fearing law abiding citizens is one of the most noble and thankless jobs on the planet.

When you’re overwhelmed it’s okay to ask for help from outside sources to mentor your child. 🙏🏻

Nobody likes getting letters from school. 🏫

Hell…. my son Landon got a warning for pulling his pants down during music class last week. 😂

(After cracking up at the letter I corrected him telling him that I wouldn’t accept that in my class, his teachers deserve the same respect).

I see you and respect what you’re doing!

If you need assistance…..make the call.

Don’t retreat and try to “grind it out on your own”.

See you on the mat,
