“I Don't Have The Luxury of Becoming Too Soft or Undisciplined.”

That’s an angle of Jiu-Jitsu that I never really contemplated until recently.

Every decision that someone makes off the mat will inherently either improve or harm their performance when they go to train Jiu-Jitsu.

Example: You smoke. Undeniably harmful to you, and it will make your grappling matches that much more painful. 🥵

You hate veggies and just wanna eat Chickie nuggies and ranch for every meal (like a 6 year)?….cool! 😁

Good luck against the D1 wrestler who drinks a gallon of water daily and stocks so much broccoli that his fridge is beginning to look like a dispensary. 🥦

You like to party every weekend by kicking back 4-5 beers each night to “Take the edge off?” 🍻

God speed when you try to hit that 9am Jiu-Jitsu class….you’ll get to smell that beer again when you are sweating like some type of farm animal. 🐖

Most of America runs their schedule to hop from fleeting pleasure to fleeting pleasure. 🚢🍩🎂

No real mission.

No real intention.

Just kind of…..there.

Jiu-Jitsu guys (while not all), at least have a designated spot multiple times a week where they will get audited on their decisions from the days prior. 🧐

And that’s everybody on the team.

Not even including competitors.

Jiu-Jitsu competitors are adding the extras. The cardio.

The workouts.

The hydration.

The weight cuts (some not all).

To the outside, world they call grapplers “maniacs” or “unbalanced”. 😋

I guess I didn’t realize chasing hardships over comfort made someone….. “unbalanced” 🤔

But then again, I’m one of those weird Jiu-Jitsu guys. 🤷‍♂️

Rooting for you -🦊

See you on the mat,
